You may even think you are eating something “whole” or “natural” only to find out that it isn’t at all.
Eliminating processed foods altogether for pregnancy nutrition is a good idea. However, you may be asking yourself, “What is considered processed food?” Foods such as canned food laden with sodium, white breads and pastas made from refined or bleached flour, or snack-foods that are high in calories like chips and crackers, should be avoided. Also, frozen dinners, such as fish sticks, are packed to the gills with preservatives. Steer clear!
Food You Won’t Find On the List for Good Pregnancy Nutrition
Perhaps the most dangerous of all processed foods is processed meat. Healthy food during pregnancy won’t include hot dogs, bologna or deli meats. This is because these types of foods are made with sodium nitrites as well as could be contaminated with harmful bacteria.
So what’s best?
It’s best to choose products like eggs, meat and dairy products that are organic or made without antibiotics or hormones. Also, for the little one in your belly, it’s best to partner those healthy meats with a veggie. Getting in at least one vegetable per meal, will keep you full and will also supply your baby with nature’s best.
Don’t forget that your baby also needs those yummy healthy fats, so throw in a handful of walnuts or drizzle some flax seed oil or olive oil over your lean meats to pump up the Omega 3’s – perfect pregnancy nutrition.
